Bruichladdich 15

Bruichladdich 15 2

One day of Fan Expo done, and man I’m tired. So tired in fact, that I went to a Tavern, checked out their selection, and ordered Bruichladdich The Black Arts 3. And I did this with no regard for going on vacation in a week, going to 3 more days of nerd induced shopping sprees, and not knowing the price.

Luckily they screwed up my order and I ended up with Port Charlotte The Peat Project Bruichladdich 15 year. I’ve had very little chance to try many of the Bruichladdich line, so I thought I dive in with a random one. This is a departure, from what I’ve been told, from the traditional line, as usually the hard to spell distillery offerings (other than Octomore) aren’t peated, even though they are from Islay.

Wait, no this isn’t peated, it’s the 15 year… because the waiter was a ponce.

Bruichladdich 15 1

Price: N/A

Abv: 46%

Region: Islay

Colour: Red Mahogany

Nose: Red licorice, strawberry, sea air, pepper, cranberry, cherry

So funny thing; This was really light. And I thought I was drinking the Black Arts 21 year while drinking it. I didn’t get any real smoke off the nose, even though this is peated. It was mostly brine and some fruit. So the whole time I’m wondering if I’ve spent some extra money on a whisky when I could have picked up Y: The Last Man Volume 1.

Taste: Strawberry, oak, cigar, port, plum, anise, burn, toffee

Complex taste, still some fruit, however the typical signs of oak and cigar lend to the peat flavour. It’s nice, though I’m not getting anything too different from a simple Highland.

Finish: Smoke, sour cream, yeast, buns, raspberry, dry, pear, apple, brine, red berries yoghurt, earth, peat, lime

This is where the Scotch shines. It opens up, has multiple different flavours, and the bloody peat that you have been waiting for finally showed up in full force. I’m happier with the finish then anything else with this.

Kinda like some of the comics I’ve read. Seriously, who kills off every good character in a book? Looking at you Exiles.

Conclusion: Starts slow, okay taste, great finish. I’m happy to try this, yet I don’t think I’d buy a bottle. It reminds me of Highland Park in that it’s minor peated compared to others.

83/100
